Day 03 - Mon - 09/29/2025 - At Sea to Trondheim - Day 2
Our second day at sea started in the north Sea and eventually we reach the Arctic Ocean. We didn't set an alarm but we got up in time to have a little breakfast before attending the first of two lectures on upcoming ports. An independent contractor, Debbi Shields, gave two excellent, very detailed presentations about our next two upcoming ports of call Trondheim and Tromso. These presentations were recorded for later viewing on the state room television. We also found some well done fruit/vegetable sculptures in the Piazza.
The remainder of the day was quite laid-back as I commented in yesterday's blog that the Princess does not present very many enrichment talks. After a nice lunch in the Lido, I adjourned to a comfortable chair on deck seven and read a few chapters in my book about the formation of the cruise industry for several hours. The title of the book is Devils on the Deep Blue Sea. Tonight was a dressy night, but we don't dress up so we enjoyed dinner in the Lido as is our typical custom.
Before the show in the Princess theater, we attended the Capt.'s champagne toast and presentation of the senior officers in the Piazza. The Captain is an Italian named Marco Iaccarino, and many of the senior officers were from Italy. The evening show was a presentation by the singers and dancers in a show called Sweet Soul Music. We've seen it before on other Princess ships and it's quite good. Afterwards, we attended the yes no game show in the Explorer Lounge and had a nice chat with a couple from Utah before the show.
To wrap up our evening, we went outside on deck seven to see if we could see the northern lights and a family there reported that they had seen them however faintly. So we went back to the room and donned some warmer clothing and ventured out to the aft of deck 15 and we could see the green colors of the northern lights but they were fairly faint. There were probably 20 or 30 people out there watching and photographing what the sun was displaying for us. Hopefully the northern lights will become more vivid as we head further north. My northern lights app definitely indicated that we were right under a powerful solar storm event. I should note also that the Captain indicated that if the Northern lights were impact truly visible that they would make announcements everywhere throughout the ship no matter what time of the night. Seeing the northern lights is a high priority item for many people on this cruise.
Tomorrow, Tuesday, we don't arrive in Trondheim until around noon and we're staying there until around 8 PM.
